“How many types of wine are there around the world ?” does this question ever pass by your mind? There are more then 10,000 varieties of wine grape around the globe and that is a lot! The list below shows the most common type of that wine lovers would purchase on the market. Separated into two main categories White Wine and Red Wine.

White wine

The originality of Riesling wine comes from the Rhine region of Germany’s white grape. German are famous for making Rieslings as they made it slightly sweet. Eastern USA and Alsace of France is recommended, thought it is made in different style it shows the same aromatic as the German Rieslings but less sweeter.

GewĂ¼rztraminer is a white wine founded in Alsace of France, it consist a smells and aroma that is identical to the lychee fruit. It also has the aromas of rose petal and peach as well. This white wine is a good match forspicy Asian cuisine or can consume alone it is almost perfect for every occasion. GewĂ¼rztraminer is a semi-dry type which makes it a bit sweeter, and low on alcohol level. Alsace and Germany produce some of the finest GewĂ¼rztraminer. It is best go with Asian food and pork.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay was created in Burgundy of France, it also earn the nick name of White Burgundy for its great elegance. It is one of the most popular white wine around the globe. What is making Chardonnay so specialis that it can be made into sparkling or still. This wine is the most produce and popular during the 80s and 90s. The grape of the wine was able to growth in many regions climate, but each regions of Chardonnay does not have the same taste. Chardonnay is best go with fish and chicken dishes.

Sauvignon blanc

Sauvignon blanc originates from the region of Bordeaux of France where it is blended with semillon. New Zealand produces some excellent Sauvignon Blancs. Some Australian Sauvignon Blancs, grown in warmer areas, tends to be flat and lack fruit qualities. It is also grown extensively in the upper Loire valley where it is made as a varietal wine. It is lighter than Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc normally shows a herbal character suggesting bell pepper or freshly mown grass. The dominating flavours range from sour green fruits of apple, pear and gooseberry through to tropical fruits of melon, mango and blackcurrant. Quality unoaked Sauvignon Blancs will display smokey qualities.

Red Wine

Syrah & Shiraz

Syrah & Shiraz both is the same wine Shiraz is called by the Australian wine maker instead of it original term Syrah. The wine is to be consider the darkest wine among the red wines. Hermitage of Rhone region from France produce one of the highest quality and pricing Syrah. It has a taste of aroma and flavours of wild black-fruit (such as blackcurrant), with overtones of black pepper spice and roasting meat. The abundance of fruit sensations is often complemented by warm alcohol and gripping tannins. It goes well with meat such as steak and beef.

Merlot

The second most popular wine in the US, Merlot means The Little Blackbird. It is one of the most  highly recommended drink for people who are new to wine. It is easier to drink because of its softness and elegance. It has a taste of black-cherry and herbal flavours. Any food is a good pairing with the wine.

Cabernet Sauvignon

The Cabernet Sauvignon is labeled as one of the best widely accepted wine around the world especially among the Americans. Originates from France, Cabernet Sauvignon is a red grape varietal known for its thick, durable skin, and the vine’s resistance to the elements. It is the champion in the region of  Bordeaux. It is best paired with red meat.

Pinot noir

Originates in Burgundy of France it is one consider a finest wine due to its structure which is delicate and refreshing. The aromatics are very fruity (cherry, strawberry, plum), often with notes of tea-leaf, damp earth, or worn leather.  California, Oregon, Australia, Chile and New Zealand, Pinots from these regions tend to be bigger and richer in flavor, tasting fruitier than the Pinots from France.
